My RedLetter Christmas Holiday

I don't remember ever spending Christmas outside Calabar. Even after moving to Abuja, I always make it home for Christmas. Of course some years would be more fun than others, but my most memorable I'd like to share with y'all.

December 2007 came with the usual thrills of the Cross River Christmas Festival - carnival, parties, reunions, hooks ups (lol).... Being a 'front line' member of one of the carnival bands, Passion4, I had rehearsals, fittings, etc, in preparation for the carnival. I also had a fashion show which also entailed fittings, etc. So I'd go from fashion show fitting/rehearsal to carnival fitting/rehearsal. You'd think that by the end of the day my feet would be sore from walking in heels, and my body would be tired from dance routines. I don't remember if that happened, all I remember is, nothing stopped me and Sharon from partying till we dropped.
She'll probably kill me, but I have to tell it as it happened.
She was also in the band and taking part in the show so our daily routines were similar.

A new bar had just opened down the road from where we had our band rehearsals. One day after rehearsals, we decided to go for a drink before going home. We got there and there was a handful of people. One drink became two; then the place started filling up. Some guys we knew came in and asked to join us, we agreed, but told them we would be heading out soon - it didn't take a lot of persuasion to change our minds.

We left the bar at about 4a.m that day. We couldn't sleep for long because we had to meet with the designers at about noon. We finished with the designers, and went for band rehearsals at about 4p.m. After rehearsals, we decided to go for JUST one drink this time, or two, maximum. We have one cocktail each and get ready to leave, when the same guys from the previous day walk in. Laughing, they're like "com'on, we just got here, let's at least share a drink". In our defence, this time they had to really persuade us. A few minutes later we were seriously chatting and knocking down shots. This quickly became a routine. Sharon and I were out every night. And it really was fun. There were lots of really hot guys, and chics who made you rethink your sexuality. We were both single, and there were more than a few 'prospects'. We also met old school mates from as far back as nursery/primary school. It was crazy!

The fashion show was on the same day as the carnival; and this was the night before our last rehearsals, which was going to last all day. Notwithstanding, Sharon and I went for "a drink". The next morning I showed up in the same clothes from the previous day, and Sharon was a no show.

Well, in the end we walked the whole carnival route, then hurried home to freshen up for the show. We did the show with no hassle, and went for the after party. ...And no, we weren't on steroids.

Speaking for myself, though I'm sure same goes for her, I do not intend to top that performance. We were younger and had less worries.

I look forward to this year's festival. Hope to see you there. *winkies*
